Mrs Sumathi, principal of our Shanthimalai School, received the state-level „Dr.  Radhakrishnan Best Teacher Award“ by the Tamil Nadu Education Department on 05.09.2023 in Chennai. This is not only a great achievement of Mrs. Sumathi, but also reflects the enormous efforts made by our teachers towards improving all aspects of school life, not only academic. Dr. S. Radhakrishnan was the second President of India from 1962 -1967, he was also known as an eminent philosopher, educationalist and author, who interpreted the Indian culture and philosophy globally. “True teachers are those who help us think for ourselves.”, he said. Der Multidimensional-Poverty-Index der UNO beinhaltet die Dimensionen Gesundheit, Bildung und Lebensstandard. Ländliche Gebiete sind weltweit zu über 80 Prozent von multidimensionaler Armut betroffen.

Indien hat mit 1,4 Milliarden etwa so viele Bewohner wie der ganze afrikanische Kontinent. Einer Schätzung der UNO zufolge befinden sich in Indien etwa 370 Millionen Menschen in multidimensionaler Armut, die größte Anzahl weltweit, die Hälfte davon Kinder. 22,5 Prozent der Menschen dort leben demnach unterhalb der Armutsgrenze, also von weniger als 1,9 US-Dollar pro Tag (kaufkraftbereinigt).
